Description: This Qianlong period famille rose "Eighteen Arhats Crossing the Sea" covered jar has a diameter of 18 cm and a height of 20 cm. The jar has a four-character underglaze blue "Qianlong Reign" mark on the base. It is an exquisite court-style famille rose figure porcelain piece, specifically designed for high-end display and storage. The body is rounded and full, with a short neck, broad shoulders, and a slightly tapering lower section, fitted with a matching arched lid topped with a lotus bud-shaped knob. The knob, decorated with iron-red lotus petals on a white glaze, complements the overall design, exuding elegance and harmony. The entire body of the jar is adorned with exquisite famille rose brocade patterns, outlined with fine gilding. The rim is decorated with pink swastika patterns of auspicious clouds, while the neck and lower part feature layered patterns including geometric, floral, and lotus motifs. The lid is painted with a pair of delicately rendered cranes, symbolizing longevity and good fortune. The main subject depicts the magnificent scene of the Eighteen Arhats crossing the sea, against a backdrop of soft clouds and celestial phenomena. The Arhats are depicted in various poses: some sit serenely in the clouds, some hold ritual implements, and some are lost in meditation. Their robes are painted in elegant shades of purple, red, yellow, blue, and green, their faces delicately rendered, and the lines of their garments flowing gracefully. The scene is also interspersed with auspicious motifs such as bats, dragons, incense burners, and mythical beasts. The warm yellow and soft earth-toned clouds create a sense of depth and dynamism, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of court painting during the Qianlong period. The interior is glazed in pure white, while the exterior is smooth and jade-like. The famille rose enamel technique employs rich layers, using techniques such as chiaroscuro, filling, and gilding to create a strong three-dimensional effect. The rim, lid, and foot are all decorated with gold trim, further enhancing its imperial grandeur. The base is glazed white, with the standard four-character underglaze blue mark "Qianlong Reign" within a square frame. The eighteen Arhat motifs symbolize protection, peace, and blessings, while cranes, bats, and dragons form a complete picture signifying longevity, prosperity, and good fortune. This jar, combining exquisite court craftsmanship, intricate embroidered decoration, gilded details, and superb figure painting skills, is a masterpiece of famille rose porcelain from the Qianlong period.
