Description: This pair of ancient bronze seated lions weighs a total of 2964 grams. Each lion is 21 cm tall, and the base is 13.5 cm long. This pair of lions was used as traditional scholar's desk ornaments and bronze paperweights. They are classic guardian beast sculptures, imposing and elegantly dignified. The two lions are seated, cast as a pair, symmetrical in proportion, and placed on a rectangular base. The front legs are stable, the hind legs are bent and tucked under the body, and the long tails curl to the sides of the hind legs. With a dignified and imposing posture, these lions are suitable for display in a study or an elegant interior space. The lion's head design follows the style of traditional Chinese guardian lions, featuring a broad forehead, piercing eyes, prominent eyebrows, a strong mouth, and flowing whiskers. The facial carving is both rugged and restrained, creating an ancient and majestic aura. The mane is meticulously sculpted, with layers of curly patterns, flowing down from the head to the shoulders and back. The lion's body has clearly defined muscle lines, and the limbs, paws, and hooves are clearly outlined. The fine carving of tendons and hair gives the lions a realistic sense of weight and power. Each lion is cast as a single piece with a solid rectangular bronze base. This pair of bronze lions is substantial, weighing nearly 3 kilograms in total. Their surface is covered with a naturally formed bronze patina, a deep brown and green, showcasing the oxidation marks of time and rich layers. The recessed carvings retain a deeper tone, enhancing the three-dimensionality of the sculptural details. These bronze lions, cast using the traditional lost-wax method, are sharply defined, exquisitely shaped, and crafted with superb skill. Their design emphasizes imposing presence rather than elaborate ornamentation, reflecting the timeless aesthetic ideals of early Chinese bronze animal sculpture. The simple form of the bronze lion has long symbolized protection, prosperity, and wealth. Placed in pairs, they represent balance, harmony, and security, combining practicality and aesthetics. These bronze lions are remarkably well-preserved, with rich colors and a majestic presence, making them highly sought-after Chinese bronze artworks by collectors of ancient metalwork and literati artifacts.
