Description: This Northern Song Dynasty Ding ware brown-glazed conical tea bowl, 12.9 cm in diameter and 4.1 cm in height, belongs to the highly regarded "Purple Ding" or Purple Ding porcelain category. The elegant shape of this tea bowl embodies the refined simplicity and practical beauty of Song Dynasty tea culture. The bowl has a classic conical shape, a wide flared rim, gently sloping walls, a shallow body, and a delicate foot. Its light, balanced, and elegant contours showcase the understated beauty highly valued in Song Dynasty ceramics. The slender body and stable proportions make it an ideal choice for traditional tea brewing. The bowl is covered in a rich, warm reddish-brown glaze, its surface smooth and translucent, with fine black iron spots naturally distributed within the glaze, a result of the iron mineral reaction during firing. The rim, with its lighter glaze, shows natural wear, glaze variations, and firing marks, adding to its historical charm. The interior surface is smooth and flat, preserving subtle traces from the kiln firing process. The exterior glaze displays subtle color variations etched over centuries. The meticulously finished, low-set foot reveals the delicate white glaze characteristic of Ding ware. Wheel-throwing marks are visible on the body, the glaze flows naturally, and the exposed clay from the firing process showcases exquisite craftsmanship, reflecting the refined hand-polishing techniques of Song Dynasty Ding ware. Purple-brown glaze Ding ware is one of the rarer and more prestigious glazes in the Ding ware tradition, and its production process is more refined than that of ordinary white-glazed Ding ware. This bowl has a simple shape, elegant glaze, and minimalist decoration, perfectly interpreting the exquisite aesthetic concept of Song Dynasty ceramics. Conical tea bowls hold an important place in the history of Chinese tea culture and are still highly sought after by collectors around the world.
