拍品描述

Dimensions: Diameter 21.2 cm (8.35 inches), Height 7.5 cm (2.95 inches), approx. 0.25 feet, 12th century Jian ware porcelain from the Song Dynasty. Condition and Provenance: Excellent condition, in its original state; Provenance: Originally from a private collection in Hong Kong, later acquired by a private collector in New York, USA. Description: This exquisite Jian ware temmoku bowl is a masterpiece of Song Dynasty black-glazed teaware, closely related to the court's "tribute" tradition. The bowl has a wide, flared rim, gently sloping walls, and a shallow foot, outlining the elegant "tea cap" shape commonly seen in Song Dynasty tea culture. Its large size makes it both practical for traditional tea brewing and highly valuable for museum collection purposes. Made from Jian ware's unique high-iron clay, the clay is dense, thick, and a deep grayish-brown. The shallowly cut foot is finely crafted, and the center is stamped with the two characters "Gong Yu," a mark traditionally used for high-grade Jian ware tea bowls made for the court. The bowl is entirely covered in a rich black glaze, deep and glossy. Where the glaze thins at the rim, it reveals a natural brown hue, with a smooth, natural transition between the glaze and the exposed clay. Both the interior and exterior are covered with dense, silvery-white and silvery-gray crystals, which gradually taper outwards from the center, shimmering with a subtle metallic sheen under light. Due to kiln variations, they take on a golden-brown hue, creating a striking contrast with the deep black glaze. This bowl perfectly embodies the exquisite craftsmanship, imperial tea culture, and artistic achievements of Song Dynasty Jian ware porcelain.
