Dimensions: Height 60 cm (23.62 inches), width 14 cm (5.51 inches), approx. 1.97 feet, weight 13.8 kg (30.42 lbs), 18th-century Qing Dynasty wood carving. Condition and Provenance: Well-preserved, original carved wooden base intact; surface exhibits a natural, rustic patina. Provenance: Private collection, Florida, USA. Description: This magnificent agarwood mountain carving, crafted from natural ancient wood, is paired with an original rosewood carved base. This sculpture, suitable for a large study or hall, perfectly blends the beauty of natural materials with traditional Chinese wood carving techniques. Resembling a majestic and precipitous mountain peak, the carving skillfully follows the natural grain of the wood. The artist transforms the organic form of the wood into a dragon soaring through the clouds, showcasing a harmonious balance between nature and craftsmanship. The front of the sculpture is adorned with intricately carved dragon and cloud patterns, employing high relief and openwork techniques. The main dragon occupies the upper part of the sculpture, its head held high, mane flowing, scales meticulously carved, claws powerful, and body agile, weaving through layers of clouds. This sculpture vividly portrays the power and majesty of the mythical dragon. Elegant cloud patterns intertwine in the background, creating a vast and boundless scene. Below, a smaller dragon slowly rises, playing with a precious pearl, forming a complete double-dragon motif with the main dragon, symbolizing prosperity, advancement, and lasting good fortune. This sculpture is exquisitely crafted and imposing; the raised relief complements the natural grain of the ancient wood, creating distinct layers and a strong sense of three-dimensionality. The original rosewood base is ingeniously designed, with its stepped shape, openwork carvings of auspicious patterns, and warm wood grain, contrasting sharply with the sculpture's deep black tone. This large piece, weighing 13.8 kilograms, comes with its original base and combines precious natural materials with exquisite traditional craftsmanship. It is a masterpiece of Chinese decorative wood carving and an ideal choice for museums, galleries, or private collections.
