Dimensions: 49 cm (19.29 inches) in diameter, 3450 g in weight, 15th century. Condition and Provenance: This round plate is generally in good condition, with a minor ancient crack on the rim and no obvious deformation. The central eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva image, flanked by two bodhisattvas, and the carved decorations including the canopy and foliage are mostly legible. The surface is covered with a thick, natural bronze patina, and some of the carved lines show slight signs of age. There are a few early chips on the rim. The reverse side still retains the original hammering marks. There are no modern additions or later welding repairs. This plate is owned by a private collector in Miami, Florida, USA, and was purchased from an antique dealer in Bangkok in 2014. The collection archives and original multi-angle photographs are well preserved. Description: This 15th-century round bronze seal, decorated with an eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva image, is an original consecration seal for a large Tibetan Buddhist statue, hammered from a thick sheet of copper. The central eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva sits on a lotus throne, under a canopy, with a bodhisattva standing on each side. Exquisite jewels and flowing robes, meticulously outlined with fine lines, create a balanced and complete image. This type of seal was used in the consecration ceremonies of large Buddhist statues. Large, original seals in excellent condition with intact images are extremely rare. It fully demonstrates the superb metal engraving techniques of 15th-century Tibet and is a precious artifact for the study of Tibetan Buddhist iconography and the customs of consecrating Buddhist statues.
