拍品描述

Dimensions: 36.2 cm long, 17.5 cm high; 14.25 × 6.89 inches; approx. 0.12 feet (15th-17th century). Condition and Provenance: Well-preserved, solid brick with a naturally aged patina, earthy mineral staining, and retaining the original traces of ancient brickmaking. Provenance: Private collection, Florida, USA. Description: This rectangular ancient brick inkstone, transformed from an old building brick, has become a refined scholar's object. The heavy brick retains its original rough edges, signs of age, and naturally formed patina, combining practicality and decoration, exuding a rich historical aura. The front is divided into two balanced sections. The right side features a deeply carved circular inkwell surrounded by an eight-petaled lotus flower design. The flowing lotus petals symbolize the purity and tranquility of Buddhism, while the polished inkwell can be used for grinding ink and holding brushes. The left side has a square border containing an exquisite Buddhist inscription in seal script. The characters carved on the inkstone are exquisite and fluid, profound and enduring, showcasing a rich traditional stele inscription style and exuding an elegant literati charm. Decorative border details are preserved on both sides of the inkstone, further highlighting the overall craftsmanship. The back retains original brick-making traces, including neat comb-like diagonal lines left by ancient brick-making techniques. The raw brick texture contrasts sharply with the finely carved characters and lotus patterns, giving this piece a perfect balance between rustic antiquity and refined artistry. It integrates ancient brick-making techniques, Buddhist symbolism, seal script aesthetics, and the function of a scholar's inkstone, showcasing the elegant style of traditional Chinese literati culture. It serves as both a practical writing tool and a highly collectible Chinese decorative art piece.
