拍品描述

Dimensions: 32.5 cm long, 16.5 cm high; 12.80 × 6.50 inches; approx. 0.11 feet (17th-18th century). Condition and Provenance: Well-preserved, solid brick with natural earth marks, a patina developed over time, and original manufacturing marks in a comb-like pattern on the back. Provenance: Private collection, Georgia, USA. Description: This Qing Dynasty brick inkstone, transformed from an old building brick, is a refined scholar's object that combines practicality with traditional Chinese decorative art. The rectangular brick is thick and heavy, with naturally rough edges. Its surface is covered with layers of patina and earthy weathering, creating a rich sense of history and authenticity. The front is carefully divided into two parts, balancing practicality and decoration. The left side features a large, circular inkwell with smooth inner walls, used for grinding ink and holding brushes. The surface of the inkwell displays naturally blended yellowish-brown marble patterns, adding depth and charm to this ancient object. The right side features a circular frame decorated with a high-relief seal script "Longevity" motif. The central raised circular pattern sets the composition, surrounded symmetrically by four seal script characters, creating a balanced layout. The carving is vigorous and powerful, with a strong three-dimensional effect, showcasing the aesthetic essence of traditional Chinese bronzes and stone inscriptions. "Longevity" is a classic Chinese auspicious motif, symbolizing longevity, wealth, and enduring blessings. The reverse side retains traces of the ancient brickwork, including geometric lines and dense diagonal comb-like patterns. The rugged brick surface contrasts sharply with the exquisite carving, highlighting the work's unique artistic charm. This piece integrates the function of a scholar's inkstone, traditional seal carving, auspicious symbolism, and ancient building materials, showcasing the elegant style of Chinese literati culture. It serves both as a practical writing tool and as a highly collectible decorative art piece.
