Description: This exquisite Tang Dynasty gilt bronze dragon sculpture is a prime example of ancient Chinese metalworking. Measuring 9 cm long, 7.5 cm high, and weighing 347 g, the piece is cast in bronze and covered with a thick gilding layer, retaining much of the warm gold decoration. Natural mineral deposits, oxidized green copper layers, and reddish-brown burial tones create a striking contrast between gold, copper, and bronze. This sculpture depicts a majestic, coiled dragon, presented in a dynamic three-dimensional form. The dragon's coiled shape, forming a hollowed-out circular structure, creates a strong sense of movement and vitality. Its head is held high, its eyes gleaming, its mouth wide open, and its curled horns and flowing whiskers are lifelike; its graceful body features agile claws and a powerfully swaying tail. Every surface is meticulously crafted, adorned with intricate scale patterns, cloud-like mane designs, and rhythmic lines. The perfect combination of lost-wax casting, gilding, and fine carving showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of ancient Chinese artisans. In Chinese tradition, the dragon is considered a supreme auspicious mythical beast, symbolizing imperial power, protection, prosperity, and perpetuity. With its majestic form, exquisite details, and well-preserved gilding layer, this sculpture is a rare and highly collectible masterpiece in the art of ancient gilded bronze.
