Description: This Northern Song Dynasty Cizhou ware jar showcases the unique craftsmanship and everyday elegance of folk ceramics in northern China. The jar has a short, straight neck, a rounded and wide body, and a shallow foot, with an overall balanced and stable shape. The full shape, smooth transitions, and solid proportions reflect the practical yet refined characteristics of Cizhou ware ceramics. The entire body is covered with a warm white slip and transparent glaze, presenting an ivory color and radiating a soft, understated luster. The natural fine cracks on the rim reflect the traces of centuries of weathering on the glaze. The shoulder and neck are adorned with dark horizontal stripes, creating a simple contrast with the richly textured body. The main body is decorated with dense and neatly engraved patterns using traditional turning techniques. Rows of crescent-shaped engravings form a rhythmic surface texture, varying in depth and spacing, creating a striking visual effect. This decorative style is one of the most recognizable techniques in Cizhou ware ceramics. The lower part of the body is also decorated with horizontal stripes, while the exposed foot reveals the original clay color and signs of age. The interior retains clearly visible wheel marks from the forming process, highlighting its handcrafted nature. This pottery jar is now ideal for tea rooms, studies, and collectors to display and collect historically significant Northern kiln ceramics.
