The surface displays the characteristic texture and weathered appearance of polished jade, retaining its natural brownish-yellow hue and original characteristics. Provenance: Private collection, New York, USA. This jade piece was long held in a collector's collection of ancient Chinese jade. Description: This polished jade sun god statue is a finely crafted ritualistic sculpture inspired by iconic figures of the Hongshan Culture. The statue, 10.8 cm high and weighing 215 g, is carved from dense, highly polished jade with a deep green color and natural surface texture, formed over hundreds of years of geological processes. The jade statue's horns, face, and body are covered with natural brownish-yellow mineral patterns, giving it a rustic and elegant quality, and bearing the warm marks of time. The statue is a single piece, composed of three parts: the head of the sun god, a slender neck and body, and an outward-flaring base. The head has a pair of large, curved horns on each side, with round, full eyes and simple, powerful features, showcasing typical characteristics of Hongshan jade sacrificial figures. The neck is decorated with multiple horizontal spiral patterns, the lower body with rhomboid patterns, and the base is surrounded by twisted patterns. The overall carving style of the jade statue is bold and powerful, with profound meaning, closely connected to the spiritual connotations of prehistoric Hongshan jade art. The sun god statue represents one of the most important themes of the Hongshan culture, reflecting the ancient people's belief in divine power, ritual communication, and ancestor worship. This jade carving, washed by river water, blends prehistoric symbolism, exquisite craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of early Chinese jade carving.
