Description: This exquisite piece is a Longquan celadon scholar's water vessel from the Southern Song Dynasty, designed specifically for a scholar's desk. Shaped like a pomegranate, it has a short, slender neck, a slightly flared rim, a rounded and full body, and a slightly flared foot. This small and elegant vessel is an ideal choice for a scholar's study, serving both as a water vessel for inkstones and as a refined decorative item. The entire vessel is covered in the distinctive pale blue glaze characteristic of Longquan porcelain. The glaze is thick and smooth, like jade, with a subtle blue-green sheen. The natural clay texture is faintly visible on the glaze surface, further enhancing the vessel's charm. This glaze embodies the aesthetic philosophy of Longquan porcelain, "glaze like jade," and was highly praised by Song Dynasty literati. The shallow foot rim showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of Longquan porcelain. The bare foot rim exhibits a warm reddish-brown hue, naturally formed from iron elements in the clay during the firing process. As a scholar's vessel, this piece combines practicality with refined artistic taste, reflecting the elegant lifestyle and aesthetic ideals of the Song Dynasty. Complete examples of Longquan pale blue scholar's vessels are highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
