Provenance: Private collection in California, USA; held for many years by a West Coast private collector. Description: This bronze tiger statue is a magnificent ancient ritual and display object, 17 cm long, 15 cm high, and weighing 2227 g. The sculpture, crafted using traditional bronze casting and sculpting techniques, vividly depicts the dynamic beauty of a walking tiger, symbolizing power, protection, and authority in ancient culture. The tiger is sculpted in three dimensions, with stable limbs, forelimbs striding forward, and hind limbs supporting its strong body. The tiger's posture is dynamic and imposing, its head turned to the side, mouth open to reveal fangs, exuding a majestic aura. Its high back and curled tail create a balanced and striking silhouette. The tiger's face is piercing, its eyes bright and round, its brows conveying a sense of power, embodying the traditional image of the king of beasts. Fine lines cover its entire body, forming layered tiger stripes that follow the natural flow of the muscles in its shoulders, torso, and legs. The claws are meticulously depicted, and the upward-curving tail is also adorned with segmented carvings. The bronze vessel is thick and solid, its surface covered with rich, original ancient green patina, reddish-brown oxide layers, and mineral crusts. These natural surface variations endow the artifact with a profound historical significance, revealing its long burial and the marks of time. This bronze tiger sculpture is made using a one-piece casting technique, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of ancient times, with precise form and fine carving. In ancient Chinese culture, the tiger symbolizes protection, strength, and warding off evil. Bronze tiger sculptures were often placed in important locations as amulets and sacrificial offerings. This bronze tiger is beautifully shaped and full of dynamism. Its surface shows the marks of time, making it a masterpiece of early Chinese bronze craftsmanship. It remains a prized possession for collectors and museums.
