Provenance: Private collection, New York, USA. Acquired from the American antique market in the late 20th century and held by a private collector for many years. Description: This Northern Song white-glazed dish is decorated with an exquisite depiction of the Buddha preaching, and the rim is adorned with chrysanthemum patterns, perfectly blending exquisite ceramic craftsmanship with religious imagery. The shallow dish has a delicate leaf pattern on the rim, a slightly flared edge, and smooth, flowing lines, with a delicate foot. The elegant, low-slung shape embodies the refined aesthetics of Song dynasty ceramics. The brown decoration on the rim creates a subtle contrast with the warm ivory glaze. The interior is intricately designed with layered molded decorations arranged in a harmonious manner: chrysanthemum petals radiate outwards from the center, interspersed with delicate scrolling patterns. The central motif depicts Shakyamuni Buddha seated on a lotus throne, surrounded by a halo, his robes flowing, and a Dharma wheel adorning his chest. Two attendants stand respectfully on either side, surrounded by drifting clouds, creating a harmonious and balanced scene. The white glaze exhibits a warm ivory hue, bearing natural signs of age and subtle mineral staining. The base retains original forming marks and surface features characteristic of time. Designed specifically for display and ritual purposes, this piece perfectly blends Song Dynasty ceramic art, Buddhist symbolism, and elegant courtly taste.
