拍品描述

Dimensions: 12 cm (4.7 inches) high, 8 cm (3.1 inches) wide, 432 grams, circa 18th-20th century. Condition and Provenance: Excellent condition, intact original hoard form. The surface exhibits naturally formed bronze patina layers of malachite green, blue-green, ochre, and reddish-brown. Inscriptions, edges, and square holes of some coins are clearly visible. No artificial cleaning or surface treatment. Provenance: Private collection, California, USA. Previously circulated in the Western antique market, then held in a private collection for many years. Description: This bronze coin mountain consists of dozens of ancient Chinese square-holed coins, naturally fused together by corrosion after long-term burial underground. The coins retain their original stacked connection, forming a rare three-dimensional archaeological specimen with both historical and decorative value. The piece rests on its original wooden base, presenting a highly sculptural form suitable for academic research display. These coins retain the traditional Chinese round shape with a square center, and inscriptions and casting details are still visible on many surfaces beneath the layers of patina. The stacked coins demonstrate a traditional burial method, where coins are strung together and buried underground. The entire surface is covered with a rich natural patina, exhibiting vibrant turquoise corrosion, deep blue hues, soil deposits, and an aged red oxide layer—all traces of centuries of burial. The bronze structure remains robust and stable, with only minor natural wear and tear from long-term burial. Such coin hoards are important material records of ancient monetary circulation, highly sought after by collectors for their archaeological value, historical significance, and unique visual appeal.
