Carved from a single piece of rosewood, without seams or repairs. The high-relief decoration is well-preserved, showing rich signs of age, with clearly visible natural "ox-hair" grain, and faint golden spots on the wood surface. Provenance: Private collection, New York, USA. Description: This exquisite brush pot, carved from a single piece of rosewood, weighs 1141 g, has a diameter of 16.5 cm, and a height of 17 cm. Its cylindrical shape is full and refined, showcasing the elegant taste of traditional Chinese scholar's objects. The upper and lower rims are decorated with continuous meander patterns, creating a balanced overall structure. The piece has thick walls and a flat bottom, with clearly visible natural, fine "ox-hair" grain of the rosewood, which is deep purplish-black, and has a smooth, fine surface. The entire vessel is adorned with exquisitely carved, antique-style high-relief dragon motifs. The motifs are symmetrically arranged within a geometric square frame, incorporating stylized dragon and phoenix mythical beasts. Their bodies resemble swirling clouds, with flowing, graceful tails. The relief carving is superb, creating a strong three-dimensional effect, and the polished base showcases the design language of Shang and Zhou dynasty bronze ritual vessels. The composition is dense yet orderly, with geometric patterns and mythical beast imagery complementing each other, highlighting the craftsman's superb carving skills and masterful craftsmanship. The vessel is crafted from high-quality small-leaf rosewood, with a fine surface texture and a natural golden sheen, developing a warm, antique luster over time. The dragon motif has always symbolized authority, auspiciousness, and harmony. This beautifully designed rosewood brush holder is an elegant object for a scholar's study, used to hold writing brushes, combining practicality, artistic expression, and collectible value. Brush holders of this size and quality are particularly favored by collectors of Chinese classical furniture and scholar's artifacts.
