Dimensions: Height 9.7 cm (3.82 inches), Diameter 8.8 cm (3.46 inches), 13th-14th century. Condition and Provenance: Slight signs of use on the rim, minor glaze peeling from the edges of the dragon motif, and natural rust marks from firing visible at the foot. The glaze is largely intact, exhibiting a soft, translucent luster. This piece comes from a private collection in Hong Kong, China. The collector acquired it from the Chinese mainland antique market in the 1990s and it has been treasured within the family ever since, never publicly exhibited. Description: This is a classic Yingqing-style stemmed cup from the Hutian kiln of the Yuan dynasty. The cup has an everted rim, a deep body, and a bamboo-shaped handle. The cup is decorated with lifelike three-dimensional dragon motifs. The entire piece is covered with a soft, elegant Yingqing glaze, which is even, lustrous, and the body is fine and dense. The bamboo-handled shape is a typical drinking vessel form favored by Mongol nobles during the Yuan dynasty. The vivid dragon motif cleverly blends ceramic sculpture and porcelain firing techniques. As a rare surviving piece of Yuan Yingqing porcelain, it possesses both practical and aesthetic value, and has extremely high collectible value.
