专场: Asian Art Auction (Part II)
拍品描述
Condition and Provenance: This Bodhisattva statue retains most of its original gilding. Natural wear and gilding loss are visible on the edges, folds of the robe, and tips of the petals, revealing the bronze core beneath. The facial features are intact and undamaged. The crown, ribbons, and floral ornaments are well-preserved. The lotus petals are clearly defined, and the openwork base is complete. This Bodhisattva statue was acquired in the 1970s by a seasoned American collector of Asian art from an antique dealer in Bangkok. It was subsequently passed down through two generations of family collections and has been carefully preserved indoors, never auctioned or publicly exhibited. Description: This gilt bronze seated Bodhisattva statue is an outstanding representative of Northern Steppe Buddhist art from the Liao and Jin dynasties. The Bodhisattva wears a magnificent crown adorned with exquisite grid patterns, the ribbons of which reach to the shoulders. The Bodhisattva's cheeks are full and rounded, the eyes are slightly lowered, and the expression is serene and compassionate. This Buddha statue wears a necklace on its chest and is clad in flowing, wide robes. It sits in a lotus position, hands clasped in prayer at its chest, seated on a full lotus pedestal. The pedestal is supported by openwork animal-leg bases, the lower part of which is also decorated with a band of lotus flowers. The statue is hollow, retaining the original texture of the lost-wax casting method on its inner walls. Cast in heavy bronze, the gilding is well-preserved, blending traditional Chinese Buddhist imagery with the unique nomadic art style of the Liao and Jin dynasties. Every detail is vividly depicted with rich layers. This Liao-Jin period gilded bronze Buddha statue is extremely well-preserved and possesses immense artistic, historical, and collectible value.
