拍品描述

Dimensions: 26 cm (10.2 in., 0.85 ft) in diameter, 1501 g (3.3 lb), Warring States Period (5th-3rd century BC). Condition and Provenance: Excellent condition. The mirror is intact, without cracks, perforations, missing pieces, or major damage. The central knob is undamaged, and the gold-inlaid dragon and phoenix motif is remarkably well-preserved. The raised rim is clearly defined, and the deep green-black patina presents a refined and stable surface with naturally formed turquoise corrosion spots. Provenance: Private collection, California, USA. Description: This impressive large, round bronze mirror represents the pinnacle of ancient Chinese metalworking. The wide, rounded body is exquisitely cast and has developed a rich, deep green-black patina over centuries. The perfectly rounded, solid knob at the center, and the entire mirror cast from a single piece of bronze, showcase the exceptional quality of ancient bronze craftsmanship. The reverse side is decorated with symmetrical gold-inlaid patterns, featuring a central knob adorned with intertwined dragons and phoenixes, surrounded by elegant cloud and vine motifs. This design employs exquisite ancient gold-inlay techniques: grooves are meticulously carved into the bronze surface, filled with gold wire, and finally polished smooth, ensuring a secure fusion between the wires and the bronze. The dragon and phoenix motifs are arranged in a balanced circular pattern, with graceful phoenix wings, winding dragon bodies, and flowing cloud patterns creating a refined and luxurious visual effect. Multiple concentric lines separate the various decorative sections, lending the design a remarkable sense of order and depth. The dragon and phoenix symbolize harmony, prosperity, and auspiciousness, while the exquisite gold-inlay craftsmanship showcases the exceptional skills of ancient Chinese artisans. The reverse surface exhibits a smooth, dark patina, with a warm and soft gold tone permeating the entire inlay design. Natural surface wear further enhances the piece's historical charm; the mirror surface is smooth and intact, with only a small, naturally formed blue-green corrosion area in the center. This rare, large bronze mirror demonstrates the elegance, refinement, and superior quality of ancient Chinese bronze art.
