Dimensions: Height 12 cm (4.72 inches), Diameter 10 cm (3.94 inches), Weight 186 grams, 17th-19th century. Condition and Provenance: This brush pot is carved from a single piece of aged bamboo, without any cracks. The two raised bands around the body are intact, without any defects or dents. A long poem is engraved on the outside of the body, well-preserved, with even depth of carving, clear and sharp strokes, and no signs of wear. The small inscription in the lower left corner is clearly legible. Years of natural use have created a thick, dark red patina on the bamboo surface, revealing a smooth and translucent texture. The rim and base show only slight signs of aging, normal signs of wear. The inner wall is smooth, without any insect holes. The base retains the original bamboo base, with natural bamboo joint holes and scattered light brown antiquing marks, without any later restoration, replacement, or artificial dyeing. This piece comes from a seasoned private collector in New York State, USA, specializing in Chinese stationery and antiques. Description: This is a bamboo stationery pen holder used by Qing Dynasty literati. Made from robust, mature bamboo, it was first cut into straight, even sections, then hollowed out and polished smooth. Two wide, raised rings encircle its exterior, cleverly dividing the bamboo wall into upper and lower sections of poetry, creating a simple yet elegant visual hierarchy. The entire outer surface is decorated with shallowly engraved long poems. The calligraphy style is unrestrained and free, with the flowing strokes perfectly mimicking the rhythm and brushwork of ancient calligraphic masters. The engraver adjusted the depth of the carving according to each stroke, creating subtle variations in the weight of the lines. The patina accumulated over time has seeped into all the engraved lines, making each character stand out prominently on the bamboo surface. The poems on the upper and lower sections are arranged symmetrically, and a small, carved seal at the end of the lower section records the maker's mark. The rim and foot have been repeatedly polished and beveled, resulting in smooth, rounded edges without any sharp corners. The outer bamboo skin is finely polished, and the original texture of the bamboo fibers is clearly visible beneath layers of understated jujube-red patina. The internal cavity is polished smooth, without any burrs. The bottom retains the natural dividers of the bamboo, with unadorned bamboo joint holes and a light natural color, without excessive polishing, preserving the original, rustic beauty of the bamboo. This piece was traditionally placed on a scholar's desk to hold writing brushes. It integrates three core aesthetics: traditional bamboo carving craftsmanship, classical calligraphy, and literati poetry culture, making it a highly representative collectible among Qing Dynasty stationery. Well-preserved Qing Dynasty bamboo brush holders with complete poems and the author's signature, without cracks or damage, are extremely rare in today's antique market. They possess extremely high decorative, collectible, and aesthetic value, and are highly sought after by Eastern literati and antique enthusiasts.
