Dimensions: Length 11.5 cm (4.53 inches), Height 6 cm (2.36 inches), Weight 253 grams. Condition and Provenance: This carving is in perfect condition, without any defects, cracks, or signs of stone repair. It is carved from a single piece of natural serpentine, without any splicing. The stone's natural layering displays vibrant emerald green and milky white veins, skillfully utilizing natural color contrasts. The fine three-dimensional carving captures the curling leaves and texture details, and the entire piece is polished to a full luster. The natural cotton-like texture within the stone is an inherent geological feature, untouched by any artificial dyeing or resin treatment. This piece originated in Daiyan City, Liaoning Province, and was collected by a Chinese literati antique collector. It was exported overseas in 2015 and is currently owned by a serpentine art collector residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Traditional jade carvings are primarily traded in the Texas and New York markets. Description: This tabletop ornament is hand-carved from natural Xiuyan stone, one of the most classic auspicious jade carving patterns in Chinese art. The sculptor designed the piece entirely based on the natural two-tone texture of the jade: the light white jade forms the robust cabbage stem, while the translucent dark green jade is carved into flowing leaves, faithfully reproducing the natural form of a fresh cabbage. The layers of leaves meander and unfold, their edges delicate and lifelike, while the stem surface is finely engraved with intricate textures, bringing the details to life. The pronunciation of "cabbage" in Chinese is the same as "hundred blessings," symbolizing wealth accumulation and prosperity, making it a favorite interior decoration among ancient literati. No raw stone was wasted during the carving process, fully utilizing the natural color variations of the jade. The craftsmanship is smooth and gentle, the jade is smooth and lustrous, and has a substantial weight. Well-preserved two-tone serpentine jade cabbage carvings are becoming increasingly rare over time, possessing dual collectible value: embodying both the profound traditional Chinese auspicious jade culture and showcasing the unique serpentine jade carving techniques of northern China. It is perfectly suited for display in studies, tea rooms, and reception halls, and is highly sought after by enthusiasts of Oriental stone carving art in North America.
