Dimensions: Tianqi Tongbao: 2.5 cm (0.98 inches) in diameter; Zhihe Tongbao: 2.5 cm (0.98 inches) in diameter; Shengsong Tongbao: 2.8 cm (1.10 inches) in diameter; Qingning Tongbao: 2.8 cm (1.10 inches) in diameter; Total weight: 16 grams. Condition and Provenance: These four copper coins were unearthed from an ancient underground hoard and have not undergone restoration, recarving, or modern acid treatment. The coins retain their natural reddish-green patina and are in excellent condition. The characters are clear and raised, the central square hole is uniform, and there are no obvious defects on the inner and outer edges. The original casting is complete, with even natural wear, and has not been artificially polished or treated with a simulated patina. This set of copper coins was unearthed from a hoard dating back to the Northern Song Dynasty in central China. It was formerly owned by a domestic coin collector and entered the North American antique market in 2012. Currently, it is in the collection of a private antique coin collector residing in Dallas, Texas, USA. Ancient Chinese copper coins are mainly traded in the markets of California and New York. Description: This series comprises four classic square-holed copper coins minted during the Northern Song Dynasty under different reign titles: Tianqi Tongbao, Zhihe Tongbao, Shengsong Tongbao, and Qingning Tongbao, representing standard coin styles from various periods of the Song Dynasty. These coins were cast using the traditional clay mold casting technique, with a square hole within a round outer shell, reflecting the ancient Chinese cosmology of "a round heaven and a square earth." The inscriptions on the coins include regular script and semi-cursive script, directly recording Song Dynasty calligraphy and monetary culture. Each coin retains its original, unrestored patina, showcasing layers of green and red mineral deposits, with clear characters, intact edges, and no signs of restoration. A complete set of four Northern Song Dynasty copper coins is extremely rare, possessing triple value: historical documentary value of the Song Dynasty economy, ancient calligraphic art value, and the well-preserved bronze patina. This series of coins is an ideal choice for carefully selected coin collectors and is highly sought after by collectors of ancient East Asian coins in North America.
