Dimensions: Height 13 cm (5.12 inches), Width 7.2 cm (2.83 inches), Weight 470 grams. Condition and Provenance: Carved from a single piece of serpentine jade, without cracks, repairs, or artificial dyeing. The natural layers of emerald green and light white are clearly visible, and the jade is soft and translucent. All carving details, including the cabbage leaves, coins, and insects, are intact. The surface is finely polished, exhibiting a natural luster, and has not undergone any artificial aging treatment. This jade piece was originally made by a jade carving studio in China and exported overseas many years ago. It is now in the collection of a private collector of Ming and Qing dynasty jade artifacts residing in Manhattan, New York. Chinese jade carvings are mainly traded in the New York and California markets. Description: This serpentine jade cabbage ornament is a classic Chinese auspicious jade carving, as the word for cabbage (baicai) is a homophone for "hundred blessings" in Mandarin, making it a traditional symbol of wealth. The craftsman fully utilized the natural two-tone characteristic of jade: emerald green jade was used to create layers of curled leaves, while pale white jade was carved into the cabbage stalks. Decorative coin and beetle carvings were cleverly integrated, symbolizing wealth and prosperity. Employing meticulous three-dimensional circular carving techniques, the curled leaf textures are lifelike, and the openwork details are smooth and natural, presenting a full and elegant outline. The serpentine jade's colors transition naturally, with a soft luster, making it suitable as a desktop ornament or a feng shui auspicious object. Well-preserved modern large-scale two-tone serpentine jade cabbage carvings are relatively rare, highly sought after by overseas Chinese jade collectors, and ideal for galleries and tea rooms.
