Dimensions: 192 cm (75.59 inches) long, 81 cm (31.89 inches) wide, 84 cm (33.07 inches) high. Qing Dynasty, 18th-19th century. Condition and Provenance: This large table is crafted entirely from high-quality rosewood, with a dense and tight grain and clear, delicate silk-like texture. The table surface has a rich, natural, rustic luster, untouched by modern staining or artificial chemical aging. The tabletop features a traditional frame structure with multiple finely molded lines along the edges. All four table skirts are decorated with openwork carvings of mirage dragons and scrolling foliage, executed with skillful and fluid techniques; the decorative patterns are complete, with no obvious damage to the edges. The ends of the table skirts are shaped like vivid dragon heads. The four straight legs are decorated with melon-ribbed patterns; the cross braces and diagonal braces are original components. The mortise and tenon joints are sturdy and stable, without loosening or breakage. The cross braces and inlaid base are well-preserved. Only the legs show slight natural wear and minor dents from centuries of use. There was no replacement of wood, extensive repairs, or insect damage. This painting table was once part of the study of a wealthy family in southern China and circulated overseas during the Republic of China era. Currently, it is in the private collection of a collector of Qing Dynasty hardwood furniture residing in Georgia. New York State and Vancouver are major global trading centers for antique Chinese hardwood furniture. Description: This magnificent rosewood painting table, adorned with openwork dragon motifs, is a masterpiece of Qing Dynasty scholar's hardwood furniture, designed specifically for painting, calligraphy, and study. The entire piece is crafted from extremely thick blocks of rosewood, exhibiting a deep luster and a luxurious, weighty feel. The tabletop features a classic framed panel structure, with multiple layers of sharply defined molded edges creating a rich visual depth. Below the tabletop, a deeply openwork skirt panel is densely covered with winding dragon and swirling ruyi patterns. The exquisite openwork carving skillfully balances the solid and void, showcasing the top-tier woodworking techniques of the Qing Dynasty. The prominent dragon heads at the four corners of the skirt panel add further visual impact. Four straight legs with melon-shaped grain provide stable support, while horizontal and diagonal braces enhance structural stability, balancing mechanical practicality and aesthetics. All under-table supports and embedded bases adhere to authentic traditional Chinese panel furniture manufacturing techniques. This table boasts grand proportions and a dignified silhouette, its intricate decorations avoiding any sense of clutter. It possesses both the luxurious grandeur of imperial furniture and the practical function of a study. Given the scarcity of rosewood logs, large-scale rosewood furniture of this size and in excellent condition is extremely rare. This authentic, unrestored painting table is an ideal exhibit for antique furniture museums and a benchmark for established overseas collectors building their Chinese hardwood furniture collections.
