Dimensions: 49 cm (19.29 inches) on each side, Republic of China, 20th century. Condition and Provenance: The exterior of the porcelain plaque is covered with a uniform, light blue glaze, exhibiting a speckled pattern and a soft luster, without extensive glaze peeling or through-cracks. The central circular white glazed design features figures, animals, and calligraphy painted in famille rose enamels, in excellent condition with only minor wear from decades of use; there is no paint loss or porcelain breakage. The wooden frame is original, with a sturdy mortise and tenon joint, an intact back panel, and original metal hooks at the top; no replacement wood or hardware has been used. The edges of the frame show slight wear from long-term hanging, but there are no signs of wood rot, cracks, or extensive repairs. The plaque bears the official mark of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Art Cooperative, a common mark used by Jingdezhen porcelain painters during the Republic of China period. This porcelain piece entered the international market in the 1990s and is currently in the possession of a private collector in California who specializes in porcelain plaques from the Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods. California and New York are major global centers for the trading of antique Chinese porcelain. Description: This square porcelain plaque, decorated with famille rose enamels and featuring Daoist immortals, is a high-quality decorative porcelain artwork made in Jingdezhen during the Republic of China period. It combines enamel glaze techniques, exquisite famille rose figure painting, and calligraphy, and was designed specifically for the wall decoration of traditional temples. The complete set includes a square porcelain plaque and its original solid wood frame. The entire exterior of the plaque is covered with famille rose enamel, the patterns even and the colors deep and elegant, creating a striking visual contrast with the central circular white enamel panel. The circular panel depicts three lifelike Daoist immortals, their expressions vivid and realistic. One immortal rides on the back of an ox, another stands beside a tiger, and the third holds a magical implement. Flowing lines outline their layered robes, and the famille rose enamels are presented in soft, rich gradations, including yellow, purple, cyan, and cobalt blue. Fine, realistic details depict the fur and facial features of the ox and tiger. The painting bears a vertical inscription in ink on the left, along with a red seal. The brushwork is meticulous, perfectly preserving the classic style of Jingdezhen porcelain workshops during the Republic of China period. The solid wood frame is exquisitely crafted, the back panel is intact, and it comes with original metal hooks for direct wall hanging. Porcelain plaques from the Republic of China period are relatively common in the antique market, but those in such good condition with a blue-and-white background, complete figures, original wooden frame, and intact seal are extremely rare. This porcelain plaque features a rich glaze and exquisite figure painting techniques, possessing dual collectible value in terms of both Taoist folk culture and early 20th-century Chinese ceramic art. It is an ideal exhibit for a ceramics museum and a fine example among overseas collections of Republic of China period famille rose porcelain plaques.
