Dimensions: 18.3 cm (7.20 inches) in diameter, 14.1 cm (5.55 inches) in height. Kangxi period, Qing Dynasty, 17th century. Condition and Provenance: This cylindrical vessel is well-proportioned, straight-walled, with a smooth rim, free of chips or damage. The underglaze blue landscape design on the exterior is intact, the cobalt blue pigment displaying a vibrant sapphire blue with distinct light and shadow, and no large areas of glaze loss, cracks, or hidden damage. The interior is clean with a pure white glaze, showing only a few light brown spots accumulated over time; the body is dense and solid. Three evenly distributed strip-shaped feet are present at the base, with a clear natural spiral pattern at the center. The white glaze retains kiln firing marks and light yellow spots formed during firing, showing no signs of later repairs, polishing, or repainting. This piece was in the collection of a private collector in New York specializing in Qing Dynasty underglaze blue porcelain. The main trading centers for Ming and Qing porcelain were California, New York, and Texas. Description: This Kangxi blue-and-white three-foot brush pot is decorated with a continuous landscape painting. It was a classic decorative piece on a scholar's desk during the Kangxi period, combining practicality and display value. The brush pot is cylindrical with a flat rim and bottom, supported by three legs for stability. The exterior is painted entirely in Kangxi's imperial cobalt blue, with delicate brushstrokes and rich color layers, clearly depicting mountains, forests, lakes, houses, boats, distant peaks, and flocks of geese. The painting is grand and majestic, drawing inspiration from the artistic style of Song and Yuan dynasty landscape paintings. The bold and powerful brushstrokes outline the contours of the rocks; the trees are sparse and dense, and the water ripples; a lone boat rests quietly on the river; pavilions and towers are nestled among the mountains; and flocks of geese soar in the sky. The brush pot's exquisite depiction of the landscape, with its masterful use of depth, distance, and contrast, perfectly blends realistic landscape with the refined taste of the literati. The interior is covered with a smooth, pure white glaze, which adheres tightly to the body. The base retains the iconic spiral pattern of the Kangxi period, and the three kiln feet also exhibit distinct characteristics of the era's craftsmanship. The kiln slag and natural soil marks on the base are original kiln firing traces, untouched by human intervention. Large blue-and-white brush pots from the Kangxi period, especially those with complete and continuous landscape designs, are extremely rare in the antique market. This brush pot, with its intact cobalt blue glaze and unaltered base, is even more exceptional. It possesses rich artistic value, encompassing multiple aspects such as Qing dynasty literati culture, Kangxi porcelain craftsmanship, and traditional Chinese landscape painting. It is an ideal exhibit in the literati table section of a ceramics museum and a museum-quality treasure coveted by overseas collectors of Qing dynasty blue-and-white porcelain.
