Dimensions: Diameter 17.5 cm (6.89 inches), Height 5.5 cm (2.17 inches), Southern Song Dynasty, 13th century. Condition and Provenance: This piece is well-proportioned with a wide, gently curving rim. It is covered entirely inside and out with a uniform celadon glaze, which is glossy and translucent, without cracks, hidden fissures, or large defects. The engraved patterns inside the dish are clear and fluid, without any wear or blurring. The foot retains kiln ash and light brown firing marks from the firing process, but shows no signs of later polishing, glaze repair, or restoration. This Southern Song celadon high-footed dish was circulated overseas decades ago and is now in the collection of a private collector in Hong Kong specializing in pre-Ming Dynasty porcelain. Hong Kong was a major trading center for Song Dynasty and earlier ceramics. Description: This Southern Song celadon high-footed dish, with its body engraved with intertwined floral patterns, is a typical daily-use porcelain piece produced by the Hutian Kiln in Jingdezhen and a representative work of Song Dynasty blue and white porcelain. The dish features a wide, flared rim, a slightly sloping body, and a high, rounded foot, its overall shape soft and light, embodying the simple and elegant aesthetics admired by Song Dynasty literati. The entire piece is covered in a uniform, lake-blue glaze, a pale bluish-white with a smooth, jade-like luster and excellent translucency—a unique "jade substitute" glaze characteristic of the Hutian kiln. The interior is decorated with shallowly carved scrolling floral patterns, the petals and leaves full and flowing, the brushstrokes fluid and natural. The varying depths of the carving create a natural three-dimensional effect, the ingenious layout simple and clear, avoiding any sense of clutter. The unadorned exterior further accentuates the exquisite carving on the interior. The high foot exposes the fine, dense clay, with dark kiln ash accumulating at the center—a typical characteristic of Southern Song Hutian kiln porcelain. Such porcelain dishes with rich glaze and clear carving from the Southern Song period are extremely rare in the antique market. This plate fully demonstrates the glaze craftsmanship, carving techniques, and literati aesthetics of Song Dynasty porcelain. It is an ideal exhibit in the Song Dynasty celadon exhibition area of the Ancient Ceramics Museum and a highly valuable benchmark in overseas Song Dynasty porcelain collections.
