This vase was imported to North America decades ago and is now owned by a private collector in California specializing in Song and Yuan dynasty celadon. Hong Kong remains a major global trading center for Chinese porcelain before the Ming dynasty. Description: This Southern Song Longquan pinkish-green celadon phoenix-ear vase is a top-tier literati piece produced during the heyday of the Longquan kilns. As the most important celadon production area in southern China during the Song dynasty, Longquan kilns' pinkish-green glaze represented the highest grade of glaze materials used in the kilns. Its shape is a classic flared rim, with a tall, straight neck, and symmetrically decorated phoenix handles on both sides. The phoenix's head is vividly carved, and the wings have smooth, graceful lines, symbolizing harmony and auspiciousness. The lower cylindrical body is symmetrical and dignified. A thick, even pinkish-green glaze covers the inside and outside of the vessel, the glaze being full and soft, with a faint bluish-green hue, like clear mountain spring water, with a soft, delicate luster and a smooth, jade-like feel. The porcelain base is round with exposed edges, bearing natural rust-red firing marks, a hallmark of Southern Song Longquan porcelain. Its body is compact, and the glaze and clay are perfectly integrated, without any peeling. Longquan phoenix-ear vases were used for flower arranging in ancient studies and formal interiors, and well-preserved Longquan phoenix-ear vases are extremely rare. It is a benchmark work in the world of Song and Yuan celadon collecting, perfectly suited for placement in the center of a museum's celadon display case, possessing extremely high artistic, historical, and investment value.
