拍品描述
Dimensions: 46.5 cm (approx. 18.31 inches); Yuan Dynasty, 13th-14th century. Condition and Provenance: Well-preserved, with a straight and intact mouth, short and thick neck, broad shoulders, rounded body that tapers towards the bottom and widens at the base. The cobalt blue decoration is clearly discernible, with the cobalt blue pigment ranging from a soft grayish-blue to a saturated indigo, appearing deep blue-black in areas of higher pigment concentration. Natural diffusion and tonal variations resulting from the firing process are clearly visible. The glaze is soft and lustrous, with only minor wear, stains, and signs of long-term handling and display. The broad, unglazed sandy base shows obvious circular trimming marks, old soil deposits, stains, kiln marks, and natural wear. This Yuan Dynasty blue-and-white porcelain jar comes from a private collection in California, USA, and was formerly owned by an overseas family. Standing at 46.5 cm tall, the jar is imposing and embodies the grandeur expected of large Chinese porcelain pieces. The vessel's silhouette is simple yet powerful: a straight, short, and thick neck; broad and full shoulders; a rounded and full body; and a gradually narrowing base. The overall shape is substantial yet not cumbersome. The weight is concentrated primarily in the shoulders and upper body, while the gradually narrowing lower section gives the porcelain a controlled verticality. The body is fully painted, with layers of exquisite decoration progressing from the rim to the foot. Below the rim is a continuous band of scrolling foliage, its repeating curves forming a tight and clear border around the neck. Below this is a band of wave-like decoration, adorned with rhythmic curves and deep cobalt blue accents. This dynamic wave pattern connects the simple rim to the more complex shoulder below. Above the sloping shoulder is a wide, elongated border pattern. Each compartment is outlined in cobalt blue and contains an auspicious motif or a precious object. These designs include motifs related to the Eight Auspicious Symbols and associated auspicious objects—wheels, vases, lotuses, pairs of fish, knotted rope patterns, flame-like gemstones, and other ceremonial or symbolic items. Tiny cloud-like elements adorn each compartment.
