Qing Dynasty (17th-19th centuries). Condition and Provenance: This three-piece tea set is in excellent condition. All parts are original, with no broken legs, missing pieces, or signs of modern repairs. Made of clear-grained rosewood, the smooth surface displays the marks of centuries of traditional display. The openwork and floral relief carvings on the apron, waist, and base are clearly visible, without damage or severe wear. The curved Capricorn legs are carved with meandering vines, ending in well-preserved animal feet, and the carved base pattern is fully preserved. There is only slight surface wear on the edges and corners, due to historical use; there is no insect damage, cracking, or warping. This set of rosewood furniture originally circulated in Europe and was later acquired by a collector of classic hardwood furniture residing in Florida. New York and Vancouver are major global trading centers for Chinese antique decorative wooden furniture. The entire set is assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joints, resulting in a stable structure and a balanced, elegant design. The waist is decorated with exquisite openwork lotus patterns, creating rich layers; the upper and lower skirts are adorned with continuous scrollwork, symbolizing prosperity and longevity. Each curved capri leg is carved with meandering floral patterns, extending downwards to delicate animal head feet, complementing the carved base tray and creating a visually harmonious unity in the decorative layers of the three pieces. The ingenious carving layout skillfully balances dense details and negative space, integrating high relief, low relief, and openwork techniques to create a striking three-dimensional visual effect. Centuries of natural aging have given the rosewood a rich and lustrous dark brown patina, further highlighting the wood's superior quality. Today, complete sets of rosewood display shelves are extremely rare on the world's antique market. Originally crafted for wealthy literati to display decorative stones, porcelain vases, and bronze ritual vessels, this set possesses not only immense decorative value and historical significance in woodworking, but is also a top-tier, rare hardwood collectible of exceptional value. It would be a perfect centerpiece for any museum dedicated to showcasing classical Chinese hardwood furniture; and a coveted item for American collectors of Chinese decorative arts.
