Blue and White Porcelain Congee Jar with Landscapes, Antique Treasures and Longevity Characters, Mid-Qing Dynasty 18th Century

拍品描述

Dimensions: 17.5 cm (6.89 in) in diameter, 17 cm (6.69 in) in height, mid-Qing dynasty (18th century). Condition and Provenance: This jar is in perfect condition, without cracks or damage. The two small holes on the rim are natural marks left during firing, not later damage. The glaze is a soft, pale white with a bright, vibrant cobalt blue pigment; the two framed decorative patterns are clear and complete. The exposed foot rim has a naturally aged, yellowish-brown patina. The interior glaze is even with fine, natural firing spots, characteristic of antique porcelain, and shows no signs of polishing, repainting, or repair. This blue-and-white jar originally belonged to a private collector in southern China, later passing overseas, and is now in the possession of a collector of Ming and Qing dynasty porcelain in New York. California and New York were major global trading centers for Ming and Qing dynasty Chinese antique porcelain. Description: This large mid-Qing dynasty blue-and-white porridge jar, decorated with landscapes, antique treasures, and the character for longevity on both sides, was a practical and decorative vessel used in wealthy Qing dynasty households. The jar is cylindrical with a slight bulge in the middle and a wide, open mouth. The rim is decorated with two layers of geometric patterns, interwoven with scrolling foliage and dots. The sides of the jar are painted with attendants, birds, waterside cottages, and fishing boats, the brushstrokes delicate and soft, creating a profound sense of space and reflecting the aesthetic taste of Qing Dynasty literati landscape painting. The other side of the jar is decorated with antique treasures such as incense burners, ruyi scepters, scrolls, and Buddhist images, accompanied by a striking blue "longevity" character, symbolizing good fortune and long life. This artwork uses a layered wash technique with cobalt blue pigment to create rich tonal gradations, with smooth transitions between light and dark blue hues, complemented by a soft milky white glaze and a thick porcelain body. While Qing Dynasty blue-and-white porcelain jars with landscape and treasure designs are relatively common on the market, pieces as large, well-preserved, and framed with two complete paintings, displaying exquisite craftsmanship, are extremely rare. This piece not only provides valuable information for the study of folk customs in the Qing Dynasty, but also, as a masterpiece of traditional blue and white porcelain, possesses extremely high aesthetic value, making it an ideal choice for a classical Chinese porcelain exhibition hall.
