拍品描述
Dimensions: 21 cm (8.27 inches) high, 6 cm (2.36 inches) wide, 499 g, 5th-6th century. Condition and provenance: The complete Buddha statue and its four-legged square base are original and intact, without separation, major damage, or missing parts. The original backplate is missing. Most of the gilding is well preserved, but some has worn naturally. The bronze surface is covered with multiple layers of ancient blue-green patina, mixed with reddish-brown crusts; all corrosion layers are authentic and consistent with the period. Sculpted details, including facial features, drapery folds, and hand gestures, are still clearly visible. The openwork sections on the base are intact. The hollow base retains the original burial soil and corrosion deposits. It has not undergone modern welding, chemical cleaning, or artificial coloring, preserving its authentic ancient surface condition. Bangkok, Thailand. This Buddha statue was introduced to Southeast Asia in the mid-20th century and later acquired by a seasoned collector of early Buddhist art, where it was kept in a temperature- and humidity-controlled display case for a long time. The Buddha's robes are layered and have smooth lines. The Buddha stands barefoot on an inverted lotus pedestal, which rests on a square, openwork four-legged base decorated with openwork frames—a popular style at the time. The statue is exquisitely cast and heavily gilded. Its overall form is solemn, dignified, and elegant, reflecting the aesthetic sensibilities of the Northern and Southern Dynasties. Such a complete Buddha statue, lotus pedestal, and original base are extremely rare among early gilt bronze Buddha statues. This statue is of paramount importance for the study of early Chinese Buddhist art and possesses immense collectible value.
