Dimensions: Height 22.5 cm (8.86 in). Width 18.9 cm (7.44 in). Dating: 3300-2300 BC. Condition and Provenance: The main body of the artifact is well-preserved. Multiple bumps and knocks, reminiscent of ancient burial sites, are visible on the top and bottom, not due to modern human damage. The central double-conical drill hole is well-preserved, revealing stepped ridges and rotating grinding marks from the bidirectional drilling technique. The surface is scattered with golden-brown mineral spots and varying degrees of white patina formed during burial; all crusts are naturally formed underground. Ancient grinding marks are clearly visible. The blade retains the original wear from ancient use. This stone tool has not undergone modern repair or cutting, nor has it been chemically cleaned or artificially dyed; the original burial patina is completely preserved. This Liangzhu culture stone tool comes from a private collection in Los Angeles, California, USA. It entered North America in the 1990s and was acquired by an expert specializing in East Asian prehistoric artifacts. It has been kept in a light-proof, temperature- and humidity-controlled cabinet and has never been auctioned or publicly exhibited. Description: This Liangzhu culture stone tool is flat and trapezoidal, made of fine-grained, dark metamorphic rock. The entire surface is polished smooth, narrowing at the tail and gradually widening towards a broad, curved edge. A double-conical hole is drilled in the center for attaching a rope to a wooden handle. Evolved from the stone axe, this stone tool was not merely an ordinary agricultural implement in the Liangzhu civilization, but rather a ceremonial symbol of the elite, representing rank and power. The mottled mineral spots and patina on the surface are the result of thousands of years of underground accumulation. This particular stone tool is relatively large and has a beautiful outline. It showcases the exquisite polishing and drilling techniques unique to Liangzhu stone tools.
