Dimensions: 11 cm (4.33 inches) in diameter, 107 g in weight, Warring States period (475-221 BC). Condition and Provenance: This jade disc is well-preserved, with no major defects, cracks, or signs of significant repair. The inner and outer rims are clearly defined, showing only very slight natural wear accumulated over thousands of years. Both sides are covered with complete patterns; each jade bead is full and raised, arranged neatly and crisscrossing, with clear, deep lines separating the patterns, without severe wear or blurring. The entire piece has naturally formed multiple layers of patina, with a warm, brownish-red hue. The patina has naturally penetrated the jade, without any artificial dyeing or aging treatment. The central hole is smoothly polished, and clear spiral drill marks are visible on the inner wall, perfectly preserving the characteristics of the tubular hole craftsmanship of Warring States period jade artifacts. This jade disc is made of Hetian jade, with a dense and smooth texture, covered with a thick and even ancient jade patina, and has not undergone acid washing or excessive polishing repair. This jade disc was unearthed from a Warring States period noble tomb in central China and exported overseas in the early 21st century. It is now housed in a private collection of ancient jade artifacts in Illinois, USA. New Jersey, New York, Washington, and Illinois were major trading centers for ancient Chinese jade artifacts before the Song Dynasty. Description: This jade disc is a Warring States period Hetian jade ritual disc and is a top-tier piece among ancient jade artifacts cherished by American collectors. Strictly adhering to the standards of Chinese ritual jade artifacts, it is a flat, symmetrical disc with a smooth outer surface, a central opening, and uniform thickness, conforming to the specifications of formal ritual jade artifacts used by nobles for sacrifices and burial during the Warring States period. Both sides of the jade disc are covered with standard raised patterns. Each jade bead is uniform in size, full and round, arranged neatly in a grid pattern, with fine carved lines separating the grids. The carving technique is the characteristic fine-line carving of the Warring States period, with lines of consistent depth, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of jade carving at that time. After being buried underground for over two thousand years, the Hetian jade's matrix absorbed traces of minerals and soil, forming a rich, brownish-red patina that naturally seeped into the jade's interior, presenting a weathered and ancient beauty. A thick, lustrous natural patina covers the entire surface. The central hole, drilled on both sides, left clear spiral grinding marks on the inner wall, a key characteristic for identifying genuine Warring States period jade artifacts. In pre-Qin culture, decorative patterns symbolized harvest and vitality, while the circular bi (disc) represented heaven, serving as a sacred sacrificial object connecting humanity and the gods, embodying the core spirit of ancient Chinese ritual civilization. Well-preserved Warring States period Hetian jade bi with clear patterns and a natural patina is extremely rare in today's antique market. This jade bi perfectly preserves all the craftsmanship and markings from the Warring States period, including hand-carving, the perforated hole, and the natural patina, possessing both profound historical and ritual value and outstanding aesthetic value in ancient jade. It has been a highly sought-after item at major antique auctions in New York and Chicago, attracting fierce bidding from seasoned collectors of ancient jade from across North America.
