拍品描述
Dimensions: Total height 19 cm (7.48 inches), base width 15 cm (5.91 inches), weight 603 grams, 10th-12th century. Condition and Provenance: The Buddha statue and square base were cast as one piece, intact and undamaged. The gilding has worn away naturally over the centuries, leaving a mottled reddish-green patina on the bronze core. The five mudras, hand gestures, robe folds, and raised features on the lotus petal base retain clear casting outlines. The cavity on the back of the base is original, used to hold relics, and contains remnants of burial soil. There are no signs of modern welding or repair, chemical cleaning, or regilding. The original traces of Liao Dynasty casting and gilding, as well as the unearthed casing, are perfectly preserved. This Buddha statue was originally a private collection in Bangkok, Thailand. It entered Southeast Asia in the 1960s and was passed down to a seasoned collector specializing in Liao Dynasty Buddhist sculpture. It has always been kept in a temperature-controlled, light-protected warehouse and has never appeared at auction or in any public exhibitions. Description: This Liao Dynasty gilt bronze standing Shakyamuni Buddha statue is entirely gilded and cast in bronze. The Buddha stands on a double-layered, inverted lotus-shaped square base, with a high-piled topknot and finely curled hair. His face is round and serene, his right hand forms the teaching mudra, and his left hand holds a ritual implement. He wears a half-shoulder robe that drapes naturally in flowing layers. The base contains a square reliquary, consistent with the traditional style of Liao Dynasty Buddhist statues. This artwork blends the artistic traditions of the Central Plains and the northern grasslands, possessing a solemn and dignified appearance and exquisite casting craftsmanship. As a rare surviving example of Liao Dynasty Buddhist art, it provides important material evidence for the study of Buddhism and metal sculpture techniques in northern Liao, and has significant religious art historical and collectible value.
