拍品描述

Dimensions: 21 cm (8.27 inches) in total height, 5.5 cm (2.17 inches) in base width, 851 g in weight; Period: 10th-12th century. Condition and Provenance: The figure and square base were cast as one piece, intact, without cracks or missing parts. Much of the gilding has naturally worn away due to long-term burial and transmission, resulting in a mottled reddish-green patina on the bronze body. Casting details on the crown, necklace, drapery folds, lotus petals, and feet remain clear and sharp. The sides of the base are decorated with several openwork carvings, and the hollow original reliquary at the bottom still retains ancient burial soil. There are no modern welds or replacement parts, no chemical cleaning, or secondary gilding restorations. All original Liao Dynasty casting, gilding features, and surface crusting are perfectly preserved. This Buddha statue comes from a private collection in Bangkok, Thailand. It entered Southeast Asia in the 1960s and circulated within a circle of seasoned collectors specializing in Liao Dynasty Buddhist sculptures. The Buddha statue has always been preserved in a temperature-controlled, light-protected environment and has never been auctioned or publicly exhibited. Description: This Liao Dynasty gilt bronze standing statue depicts Guanyin Bodhisattva bestowing a child, entirely gilded. Guanyin Bodhisattva wears an exquisite crown and an intricate necklace, her face gentle and serene. She wears a flowing, wide-sleeved robe with naturally layered folds. Her right hand forms a mudra, while her left hand holds an infant. She stands barefoot on an inverted lotus flower, which rests on a double-layered square base. The sides of the base are decorated with openwork carvings, and a reliquary is located below, following the classic Liao Dynasty Guanyin Bodhisattva bestowing a child form. This statue blends Han Dynasty aesthetics with the sculptural techniques of the northern steppes. Its rare subject matter and exquisite craftsmanship reflect the Liao Dynasty's folk belief in prayers for children. It is a valuable surviving artifact for the study of Liao Dynasty secular Buddhist imagery, possessing outstanding religious art historical and collectible value.
