Dimensions: Overall height 23 cm (9.06 inches), shoulder width 7.5 cm (2.95 inches), weight 1145 g, 10th-14th century. Condition and provenance: The figure and lotus pedestal were cast as one piece, with the main structure intact. The back retains the characteristic reliquary inlay hole and mounting ears of Goryeo sculptures. The gilding has naturally worn away over time, and the bronze surface shows mottled green patina. The lotus petals, the proportions of the figure, and the gestures all retain clear casting outlines. Specializing in Goryeo Buddhist sculptures. This Buddha statue has always been kept in a temperature-controlled, light-proof warehouse and has never been auctioned or publicly exhibited. Description: This Goryeo gilt bronze standing statue, entirely gilded, depicts the infant form of the Buddha at birth. The Buddha is naked from the waist up and simply dressed from the waist down, with his right hand in the abhaya mudra (gesture of reassurance), in a solemn and dignified posture. The Buddha stands barefoot on a full, double-layered inverted lotus pedestal with thick, full petals, a typical feature of Goryeo sculpture. The reliquary hole and mounting ears on the back conform to the functional conventions of Korean temple Buddhist statues. This Buddha statue inherits the traditions of East Asian Buddhist art while incorporating local Korean aesthetics, featuring a gentle posture and a serene and peaceful expression. As a rare surviving Goryeo metal Buddhist artwork, it provides important historical and art historical materials for the study of Buddhism and metal casting techniques on the Korean Peninsula, and possesses extremely high collection value.
