Dimensions: 10 cm (3.94 inches) in diameter, 9.5 cm (3.74 inches) in height, 6th-7th century AD. Condition and Provenance: This cup is in excellent condition, without cracks or damage. The glaze is glossy and covered with a layer of natural white glaze of varying thickness. Fine soil spots and signs of age are visible on the body, and slight flaking of the natural glaze is visible at the rim. Ancient soil marks are present on the exposed foot. This cup has not undergone modern polishing or reglazing restoration; the original glaze from the Sui Dynasty firing and the excavated shell are well preserved. Originally owned by a private collector in Boston, USA, this cup entered North America in the 1950s and was collected by a seasoned connoisseur specializing in white porcelain from the Northern Dynasties to the Sui Dynasty. It has always been kept in a temperature-controlled darkroom and has never been consigned for auction or publicly exhibited. Description: This Sui Dynasty white-glazed deep-bodied cup originated from a Sui Dynasty kiln site in northern China. The vessel has a slightly flared rim, steep walls that taper downwards, and a small, delicate foot rim, giving it an elegant and upright overall shape. The entire body is covered in a soft, even white glaze, and the porcelain body is solid and fine. Its simple yet powerful form reflects the superb craftsmanship of Sui Dynasty white porcelain. It serves as an important material record of the early development and maturation of white porcelain technology, providing crucial reference material for the study of northern kilns and the evolution of domestic porcelain forms during the Sui and Tang Dynasties. It possesses extremely high aesthetic and antique porcelain collection value.
