Dimensions: Overall height 9 cm (3.54 inches), shoulder width 4.5 cm (1.77 inches), weight 126 grams; Period: 10th-13th centuries. Condition and Provenance: The Buddha statue and lotus pedestal were cast as one piece, intact and undamaged, with no breaks or missing parts. A thick, ancient patina covers the entire surface, exhibiting a stable and solid reddish-green burial patina. Facial features, drapery folds, and lotus petal details are clearly visible. The base is stable and proportionally balanced. There are no signs of modern welding or repair, chemical cleaning, or artificial coloring. This seated Shakyamuni Buddha statue from the Liao-Jin period is exquisitely cast, and the bronze shell unearthed from its original location is also intact. Originally owned by a private collector in California, USA, it entered North America in the 1970s and circulated among seasoned collectors specializing in small bronze Buddha statues from the northern Liao-Jin period. The statue has always been kept in a temperature- and humidity-controlled darkroom and has never been auctioned or publicly exhibited. Description: This seated Shakyamuni Buddha statue, from the Liao-Jin period, is cast in bronze. The base serves as the pedestal. The Buddha has feet, a prominent hip, a serene face, and wears a robe. The shoulder lines are smooth and realistic, and the right hand is in the teaching mudra. The pedestal is stepped, tapering towards the waist, consistent with the classic form of portable bronze Buddha statues from the Liao-Jin period. This small Buddha statue blends Central Plains Buddhist imagery with northern steppe aesthetics, and was made for personal worship. It reflects the widespread folk Buddhist piety in the Liao-Jin region and is a valuable material specimen for the study of small-scale Buddhist bronze artifacts from northern Liao-Jin, possessing solid historical, art, and collectible value.
