Condition and Provenance: This box is made entirely of natural old bamboo with straight and clear grain, covered with a warm honey-amber patina formed over the years. The rim and bottom edge are decorated with double-layered, continuously carved geometric relief emblem-patterned borders, with clear and smooth lines and exquisite craftsmanship. The lid is made of wood core, painted with deep red lacquer, and fitted with a square brass plate and double-ring metal pull, fitting snugly to the bamboo box. The interior and bottom of the box are lined with traditional old hemp paper, the wooden base is well preserved, and the old paper lining has naturally faded. All brass fittings are original and unaltered. This bamboo box was originally consigned for sale by an Asian antiques gallery in Vancouver and entered the private collection of an antique bamboo and wood artifact in Florida in 2026. New York, Florida, Vancouver, and Toronto are major global trading centers for Chinese antique wood and bamboo crafts. Description: This Qing Dynasty carved bamboo oval storage box is a typical scholar's artifact, suitable for desk display and travel. Bamboo carving flourished in the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty; old bamboo, lightweight and durable, with its soft, warm natural color, was highly favored by scholars and literati. This box is flat and oval, with a cylindrical bamboo body carved from a single bamboo stalk. The top and bottom of the rim are carved with standard rounded emblem patterns, symbolizing good fortune, longevity, and health. The even, shallow relief lines are smooth and free of any defects or breaks, showcasing the craftsman's exquisite skill. This simple, uncarved bamboo box retains the natural linear texture of the bamboo, embodying the understated and minimalist beauty admired by ancient Chinese scholars and literati. The box lid, made with a wooden core and coated with traditional deep red lacquer that has naturally faded over centuries, features a square brass inlay and a double-ring pull tab for easy access and portability. It can hold jade pendants, seals, incense, candles, and other small scholar's ornaments. The inside and bottom of the box are lined with antique hemp paper to protect the bamboo from moisture; the original hemp paper lining is well-preserved, its mottled texture clearly visible, a testament to centuries of meticulous care. All parts of the box are original, unrepaired and unaltered, covered with a thick layer of natural bamboo skin, smooth and delicate to the touch. Today, a well-preserved Qing Dynasty bamboo storage box with an intact lacquered lid and original lining is extremely rare on the international market. This piece combines practical storage functionality, traditional symbolic decorative patterns, and an unrestored, original antique style, integrating various classic Qing Dynasty crafts such as bamboo spinning, lacquerware making, and brass fittings. It is highly sought after by international collectors, especially those specializing in ancient Chinese bamboo scholar's objects, and possesses outstanding artistic value and long-term potential for appreciation in value.
