拍品描述
Dimensions: 1.5 cm (0.59 inches) in diameter, 98.5 g total weight, Early Shang Dynasty. Condition and Provenance: This set of agate beads is well-preserved and flattened disc-shaped. Ancient reverse-drilling shows signs of long-term cord braiding wear at the hole openings. The beads are a rich jujube red. Partial surfaces show burial patina and weathering crust, as well as minor ancient bumps and erosion. Unpolished or re-drilled; the original ancient craftsmanship and weathering crust are well-preserved. This set of beads comes from a private collection in New York, USA. It entered North America in the 1960s and passed through the hands of a seasoned collector specializing in ancient beads and jade from the northern steppes. The Xiajiadian Culture red agate disc beads are made of red agate using primitive chiseling and reverse-drilling techniques. The flat disc outline is a classic type of Xiajiadian Culture bead. The rough surface finish and unique reverse-drilling are hallmarks of important ornaments worn by northern Bronze Age tribes. They testify to the existence of early material exchange between the northern steppes and the Central Plains. These beads are valuable material evidence for studying the decorative customs of Xiajiadian and ancient bead-making techniques, and have important archaeological, art historical, and collection value.
