Dimensions: Each cricket measures 8.7 cm (3.43 inches) long, and the mantis measures 7.5 cm (2.95 inches) high. The set weighs a total of 53 grams. These are 20th- to 21st-century hand-blown biomimetic glass insect figurines. Condition and Provenance: These three glass insects are all hot-blown and hand-carved from a single piece, forming a set of two crickets and one mantis. The glass has a translucent sheen, with naturally layered biomimetic colors. The bright emerald shell is paired with a creamy abdomen, and the wings are inlaid with gold translucent glass. The tiny spines on the insects' legs, compound eyes, and antennae are lifelike; the delicate wire antennae remain flexible and are not easily broken. The glass itself has no chips, deep scratches, glue repairs, or signs of restoration, only very slight wear from long-term gentle handling, with no large-scale fading or loss of luster. This complete set was originally issued by an antiques and crafts gallery in Vancouver and acquired by a private collector of modern decorative arts in Pennsylvania in 2026. New York, Vancouver, London, and Toronto are major global centers for the trade of crafts and antiques. Description: This set of modern hand-blown glass crickets and mantises is a classic example of Chinese miniature desktop decoration. Biomimetic glass insects have been beloved by ancient Chinese literati and scholars, used as desktop ornaments that combine natural, rustic charm with exquisite craftsmanship. Each piece is handcrafted using a high-temperature thermoforming process; artisans have precisely replicated the body proportions, limb structure, and biological textures of the crickets and mantises. Subtle features, including prominent leg spines, translucent wing veins, and protruding compound eyes, are faithfully reproduced. The gradient of green and milky white mimics the natural colors of real insects, while delicate metal antennae lend them a lifelike vitality. The thermoforming process of translucent soft glass requires extremely high skill, as artisans must precisely control the curvature and thickness of each piece in a single firing. A complete, matching, undamaged, or unrepaired set of glass insects is extremely rare on the market. Its lifelike and elegant contours perfectly complement Chinese tea tables and study settings, embodying the traditional aesthetic of literati seeking tranquility in plants and small animals. This three-piece glass insect set retains all the complete craftsmanship details, untouched by acid washing or modern painting, preserving the original color of the fired glass. It enjoys a prestigious reputation among international art collectors, possessing both the academic value of traditional hot glassmaking techniques and the aesthetics of Chinese study settings, and holds continued appreciation potential in the global antique market, making it a fine example of modern glass collectibles.
