拍品描述

Dimensions: Total height 23 cm (9.06 inches), maximum mandala width 11.5 cm (4.53 inches), total weight 409 grams. This is a bronze Buddha statue from the 5th-6th century Northern and Southern Dynasties period, depicting the main Buddha and two attendants standing on a bench. Condition and Provenance: This statue is cast as a single piece, primarily in bronze. A large openwork flame mandala is located behind the main Buddha, on a four-legged square bench base. A thick bronze patina covers the entire surface, naturally forming layers of patina. Casting details are clearly visible, including flame patterns, drapery folds, crowns, and necklaces. The hollow base reveals clear original casting marks. It has not undergone modern polishing, chemical rust removal, or welding repairs; the original patina from burial and collecting is fully preserved. This bronze statue circulated in the Bangkok antiques market and was acquired in 2026 by a private early Buddhist art collection in California. Major global trading centers for Buddhist sculpture include California, Bangkok, and Paris. Description: This bronze bench-style Buddha statue from the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, featuring a main Bodhisattva and two attendants, represents a classic form of early Chinese Buddhist imagery. During this historical period, small bench-style Buddha statues were widely used in the daily worship of family believers. This piece was cast using the lost-wax method. The main Bodhisattva is elegantly depicted, draped in a flowing shawl, wearing a magnificent crown and beaded necklace; the lines of the robes are simple and smooth. The attendant Bodhisattvas on either side sit devoutly, forming a complete Buddha image. The flame-patterned mandala symbolizes divine radiance; the multiple openwork designs at the top of the mandala reduce weight and create a light, decorative visual effect. The sturdy four-legged base is a typical type of pedestal in Northern and Southern Dynasties Buddhist art. The exquisite bronze alloy is covered with multiple layers of ancient patina, bearing witness to centuries of weathering. Such works, complete with the main Bodhisattva, attendants, and a complete mandala, are extremely rare; most similar artifacts have missing or damaged parts. This stele retains all original elements, without any human alteration or restoration. It is an important material reference for studying the spread of Buddhism in the fifth and sixth centuries, ancient bronze casting techniques, and early Chinese sculptural aesthetics. It enjoys a high reputation among international Buddhist art collectors and possesses continuous long-term investment appreciation potential; it is a well-preserved masterpiece among early Chinese Buddhist sculptures.
