拍品描述

Dimensions: 36 cm (14.17 inches) in height, 14.2 cm (5.59 inches) at maximum flare at the rim. A 10th-12th century Northern Song Dynasty Ding ware ivory-white glazed long-necked plum-shaped vase with a wide, dish-shaped mouth. Condition and Provenance: The vase features a classic dish-shaped flare at the rim, a slender, inward-curving neck, and a full, olive-shaped body that gradually narrows to a flat bottom. The entire piece is covered in a smooth, even ivory-white Ding ware glaze with a fine sheen and moderate thickness. There are slight signs of natural burial, with heavier soil staining near the foot. The mouth extends through the neck, supported by a dense, fine porcelain body. The unglazed foot shows clear concentric spiral wheel-thrown patterns, appearing pale white, perfectly preserving the patina from its excavation. This antique has not undergone any artificial acid washing or polishing; its only natural color, formed over millennia of burial, perfectly retains its original state as unearthed. It was sold by a historic antique gallery in Hong Kong and acquired in 2025 by a private collector of early Chinese porcelain in Washington State. Hong Kong was a major global trading center for porcelain from before the Ming and Song dynasties. Description: This Northern Song Dynasty Ding ware white-glazed long-necked plum vase is a highly representative decorative art piece from the golden age of Northern white porcelain. Ding ware, one of the five great kilns of the Song Dynasty, is renowned for its soft ivory glaze and exquisite wheel-throwing technique. The vase is perfectly proportioned: the wide, flared mouth complements the slender neck, creating a harmonious balance with the full olive-colored body, with flowing, graceful lines. The piece is entirely plain, without any carving or painted decoration; its sculptural contours and soft glaze texture alone exude a refined and simple elegance, fully embodying the tranquil and refined aesthetics admired by Song Dynasty literati. The clear and even spiral patterns on the base showcase the exquisite wheel-throwing technique, making it a model of the mature molding process of Northern Song Dynasty Ding ware. Covered entirely in white glaze, its soft, understated luster, devoid of any glaring artificial shine, perfectly complements the ivory-white glaze characteristic of authentic Ding ware. Today, well-preserved large Song Dynasty Ding ware decorative vases are extremely rare. Most similar pieces on the market suffer from defects such as chipped rims, minor cracks in the body, or later glaze repairs. This 36-centimeter-tall, perfectly preserved, plain Ding ware plum vase, untouched by any restoration or excessive cleaning after its excavation, possesses extremely high collection and academic research value. It is exceptionally rare among early porcelain collectors internationally and maintains stable long-term appreciation potential; within the entire field of Song Dynasty Ding white porcelain collecting, it is a truly outstanding large and complete masterpiece.
