Dimensions: Two bowls: 9.5 cm (3.74 in) diameter, 4 cm (1.57 in) height; Two bowls: 10.2 cm (4.02 in) diameter, 4.5 cm (1.77 in) height. A set of four Yuan Dynasty Jun ware celadon tea bowls from the 13th-14th centuries, with purple kiln-transformation patterns. Condition and Provenance: This set includes four bowls of two shapes: two with flattened round rims and two with flared rims. Each bowl has an arched wall and a roughly finished foot, revealing a thick, unglazed body. All vessels are covered in the characteristic celadon glaze of Jun ware, with a soft, glossy surface and glaze droplets that naturally flow downwards. The interior of each bowl shows rose-purple copper oxide splatters formed during firing. The glaze is thinner at the rim, with a light beige edge. Kiln marks and glaze flow traces from the firing process are preserved on the exterior walls. All four bowls are in excellent condition, without cracks or damage. The rims and foot rings show only slight signs of age and patina from burial, resulting from ancient use and underground storage. No later glaze filling, polishing, or repairs are observed; the original firing marks and excavation traces are perfectly preserved. This set of tea bowls was originally a private collection in Hong Kong and was acquired in 2026 from a private collector in Pennsylvania's early Song and Yuan dynasty porcelain collection. Hong Kong was a major global trading center for Chinese porcelain before the Ming dynasty. Description: This complete set of Yuan dynasty Jun ware purple-splashed tea bowls is a classic example of northern kiln-fired drinking vessels. Jun ware produced tea bowls in large quantities during the Jin and Yuan dynasties. The artistic charm of Jun ware tea bowls lies in the striking visual contrast between their cool, light blue base glaze and the naturally formed mottled copper-red glaze. Each splashed ink pattern is unique, formed by the random diffusion of copper pigment during high-temperature firing. In this set, two bowls are flattened round, and two are flared outwards; although slightly different in size, they share a unified aesthetic style. The rugged clay body and simple foot rim faithfully reflect the characteristics of Yuan Dynasty folk kiln firing techniques. The thick glaze presents a calm blue base color, smoothly transitioning to purple patches without outlining, perfectly embodying the famous Jun ware saying, "One color enters the kiln, a thousand colors emerge." Single pieces of Jun ware teaware are highly sought after by international collectors of early ceramic bowls, and this set itself also possesses excellent long-term appreciation potential. It is a well-preserved Yuan Dynasty Jun ware teaware set. Well-preserved four-piece sets are not uncommon among international collectors of early ceramic bowls, but a complete four-piece set, with each bowl displaying captivating natural purple patterns, is extremely rare.
