拍品描述

Dimensions: Height 14 cm (5.51 inches), Width 9.2 cm (3.62 inches), Weight 590 grams. Condition and Provenance: This statue is in perfect condition, with no damage or missing parts. Most of the original gilding remains. Over centuries of natural aging, some gilding has worn away, revealing the underlying bronze, covered with a rich bronze patina and some ancient verdigris. It has not undergone modern restoration or any splicing of parts. This statue comes from a long-established private collector of Asian art in Los Angeles, California, USA. It has been part of the collector's Asian collection since the 1970s. Description: This gilt bronze Guanyin statue is in a relaxed posture, representing the mainstream Buddhist sculpture style of the Central Plains region during the Tang Dynasty. The Bodhisattva sits in a common, informal, relaxed posture, one knee raised and the other hanging naturally, the posture casually tilted, giving a sense of freedom. An exquisite crown adorns the head, decorated with small Buddha images. The face is full and rounded, with soft features, slightly closed eyes, and a serene and peaceful expression. A lucky mole adorns the forehead. The anatomical structure of the torso is realistically depicted. A multi-layered beaded necklace adorns the chest, and a flowing silk scarf drapes over the shoulders and arms. The folds of the clothing are exquisitely carved, with natural and smooth lines that conform to the body's form. The casting technique is superb, and the gilding is thick and substantial. Where the gilding has worn away, the warm luster of the bronze is faintly visible. Such a well-preserved gilded bronze Guanyin statue from the Tang Dynasty is extremely rare. This Guanyin statue has a relaxed posture and has not been altered by later generations. It perfectly showcases the confident and full artistic style of Tang Dynasty Buddhist sculpture and is a precious cultural relic with immense historical and collectible value.
