拍品描述

Dimensions: 17 cm (6.69 inches) in diameter, 10th-12th century Northern Song Dynasty Jun ware scholar's dish with a folded rim. Condition and Provenance: This dish is in perfect condition, without cracks, defects, or signs of repair. A thick, milky-white sky-blue glaze covers both the interior and exterior surfaces. The interior is decorated with large areas of naturally diffused pale purple flame patterns. Fine, original crackles are evenly distributed on the glaze. Five neat kiln nail marks are preserved on the foot rim, each revealing light gray clay at the contact point. The glaze retains an ancient patina formed naturally over hundreds of years, without any modern artificial dyeing or later restoration. This Northern Song Dynasty Jun ware dish entered the possession of a private antique porcelain collector in Atlanta, Georgia, USA in 2022. Hong Kong was a major global trading center for Chinese ceramics during the Song Dynasty and earlier periods. Description: This museum-quality Northern Song Dynasty Jun ware sky-blue plate, decorated with pale purple flame patterns, is a classic example of Song Dynasty flame-patterned ware, perfectly showcasing the legendary Jun ware technique of "one color entering the kiln, a thousand colors emerging." It features the iconic folded-rim shape, with a slightly everted rim, shallow and narrow walls, and a slender foot. The rounded and balanced contours are soft and simple, suitable for both daily use by scholars and as a decorative piece. It was commonly used in the studies of Song Dynasty scholars to hold rare objects, incense, candles, or small stationery. The entire piece is covered in the unique milky-white sky-blue glaze of Jun ware, thick and smooth with a subtle luster, and covered with countless tiny natural glaze bubbles, giving it a silky smooth feel. Large, flowing pale purple flame patterns naturally extend from the center of the plate to the folded rim, blending seamlessly with the sky-blue base glaze, creating a natural and fluid transition without any harsh lines. The interplay of purple, blue, and gray hues, reminiscent of the afterglow of a setting sun, creates a unique and unreplicable natural artistic effect for Jun ware. Each fire mark is naturally formed by the kiln fire, untouched by human intervention, resulting in a distinctive and irreplaceable artistic quality. The base employs the standard nail-firing technique of Northern Song Jun ware, with five evenly distributed circular nail marks within the foot rim. The uniform size of these nail marks and the delicate, light gray glaze are key characteristics for identifying authentic Northern Song Jun ware. Jun ware is one of the five major imperial kilns of the Song Dynasty, exclusively for the Northern Song court. Large, well-preserved, naturally diffused Jun ware plates are extremely rare, and top-quality Jun ware with balanced and flowing colors is even rarer. This plate boasts a flawless shape, a pure and rich glaze, beautifully flowing purple veins, and clearly visible nail marks on the base, indicating excellent preservation. It is a museum-quality masterpiece of Northern Song Jun ware, possessing immense historical, artistic, and academic value. It can be used to study Northern Song flame firing techniques, the aesthetics of Song Dynasty imperial decorative porcelain, and the ancient ceramic kiln manufacturing system of northern China.
