拍品描述

Dimensions: 36.5 cm (14.37 inches) high, a 12th-14th century Goryeo celadon decorative vase. Condition and Provenance: The vase is structurally intact, without cracks, defects, or signs of repair. The entire celadon glaze is covered with fine, natural crackles, exhibiting a uniform and soft jade-like color. All white slip and black slip inlay patterns are intact and clear, without fading or wear. Five original kiln footprints are preserved on the glaze base, each covered with authentic ancient soil layers. The patina at the junction of the glaze and body shows natural aging, without modern polishing, re-application, or artificial aging treatment. This piece was formerly owned by a senior East Asian collector and is now in the collection of a private collector of ancient East Asian ceramics in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Hong Kong is the most important international trading center for Goryeo antique ceramics. Description: This large inlaid celadon vase represents the pinnacle of royal display from the Goryeo Dynasty of Korea, fully showcasing the signature slip inlay technique of Goryeo green porcelain, and is a masterpiece of medieval East Asian ceramic art. Following the classic Yuhuchun shape, the vase has an everted mouth, a slender, tapering neck, and a rounded, drooping belly, resembling a pear shape with smooth, balanced lines and a grand proportion. The neck is decorated with multiple layers of patterns from top to bottom: meander patterns, upward-facing lotus petal patterns, scrolling grass patterns, and paired white clay waterbird patterns at the shoulder transition, creating a rich and layered decorative effect. The main surface of the vase is covered with scrolling grass patterns, interspersed with several circular patterns. Each pattern contains a coiled white clay dragon, its body flowing, scales and claws meticulously carved, lifelike. The surrounding vine patterns gracefully meander upwards, filling the space; black clay outlines the contours, while white clay inlays the patterns, creating a striking visual contrast and a picture that is both intricate and simple. This Goryeo inlaid celadon piece required an extremely complex process: craftsmen carved recessed patterns on the raw clay, filled the grooves with black and white clay, polished the surface smooth, and finally applied celadon glaze before high-temperature firing. In that era, large Yuhuchun vases adorned with royal dragon motifs were exclusively for the use of royalty and nobility, and well-preserved examples of this type are extremely rare on the market today. This tall and elegant Yuhuchun vase retains all its inlaid decorations intact and possesses the luster of age-worn glaze. It has extremely high academic value, serving as a historical record for ceramic technology research, cross-border art exchange in East Asia, and as a finely crafted artifact with significant collectible value.
