拍品描述

Dimensions: 12.6 cm (4.96 in) in diameter, 7 cm (2.76 in) in height, a 10th-13th century Song Dynasty Jian ware tea bowl used as tribute. Condition and Provenance: This bowl is in perfect condition, without cracks, damage, or signs of repair. The rabbit fur pattern inside and out is clear and flowing. The rim shows natural aging of the iron-rich body. The base is inscribed with the deep and clear mark "Gong Yu". The coarse earthenware foot has a natural patina. The glaze is in excellent condition, without any modern rework or artificial polishing. This bowl was originally owned by a private collector in Europe and is now in a private collection of Song Dynasty porcelain in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Hong Kong is a major global market for Chinese antique ceramics from before the Yuan Dynasty. Description: This Song Dynasty Jian ware tea bowl with rabbit fur pattern and the mark "Gong Yu" was a royal tea ware used in Song Dynasty court tea tasting competitions and represents the pinnacle of Chinese black-glazed tea sets. It follows the classic Jian ware slanted rim shape: the rim flares outward, forming a distinct lip, and the bowl wall gradually narrows towards the short, carved foot, presenting a stable silhouette favored in Song Dynasty tea tasting competitions. The entire bowl is covered with a thick, jet-black glaze, with fine, golden-brown rabbit-hair patterns extending naturally downwards from the rim. The interplay of blue, brown, and black creates a rich, layered luster. The thin glaze at the rim reveals the dark, iron-rich body, a typical characteristic of Jian ware. The bottom is made of coarse, sandy iron clay, decorated with bold and rustic patterns. The two characters "恭予" (Gong Yu) are deeply engraved on the bottom, the characters powerful and vigorous, indicating that this was imperial porcelain. During the Song Dynasty, tea ceremony flourished, and the black porcelain Jian bowl contrasted beautifully with the delicate tea foam. Extant Jian bowls bearing the "恭予" mark are extremely rare, mostly belonging to the imperial family. This Jian bowl has a symmetrical shape, a glaze as fine as rabbit fur, an intact base mark, and the body, glaze, and rim finishing all conform to the characteristics of Song Dynasty porcelain. This artifact provides valuable material evidence for the study of the Jianyao tribute system and Song Dynasty tea culture, and has extremely high aesthetic, archaeological, and collectible value in the tea ceremony.
