Dimensions: 29 cm (11.42 inches) high, Qing dynasty 17th-20th century decorative porcelain. Condition and Provenance: This jar is in excellent condition, without minor cracks, major chips, or discoloration. The glaze is bright and clean, and most of the original overglaze decoration is well preserved. Only slight signs of aging are present at the rim and foot, along with minor fading spots due to long-term handling. No modern touch-ups or restorations have been performed. This jar circulated in the European antique market decades ago and is now in the possession of a private collector of Qing dynasty porcelain in New York City, New York, USA. California and New York were major trading centers for Ming and Qing dynasty porcelain in the United States. Description: This large Qing dynasty polychrome general's jar is an imposing display piece, designed to decorate a grand hall. The jar has a symmetrical and robust shape, with a short, thick, cylindrical neck, broad and rounded shoulders, a full body that gradually narrows towards a wide, unglazed base—a classic decorative jar shape popular in the Qing dynasty. The rim is decorated with a broad, brown band. The neck is encircled by multiple enamel bands from top to bottom: the uppermost band features vertical, serrated lotus petal patterns, followed by vibrant, intertwined peony and chrysanthemum motifs, painted in bright red, green, yellow, and blue enamels with smooth, delicate lines. The body of the jar is mainly composed of vertical ruyi-shaped patterns, each depicting a landscape scene with a mythical beast, the qilin, at its center surrounded by flame patterns, accompanied by lush banana leaves, bamboo groves, pine trees, and layered blue stones. Exquisite potted antique flowers adorn the various panels of the jar, symbolizing prosperity, peace, and longevity. A continuous band of peony patterns encircles the base, echoing the floral patterns on the neck, creating a harmonious and balanced composition. The jar is made of pure white porcelain with a smooth, glossy glaze. The five-color enamel painting presents rich and full colors: vibrant scarlet, refreshing emerald green, soft golden yellow, and deep, serene blue. The enamel painting is exquisite and meticulous, with smooth and powerful lines. The exposed foot reveals the solid, dry ceramic body, bearing the natural luster accumulated over centuries of collecting. Large, well-preserved polychrome kylin jars from the Qing Dynasty are quite rare on the market. This piece combines classic auspicious mythical creature imagery with mature polychrome porcelain painting techniques, possessing not only excellent interior decoration value but also significant antique collection value, and important academic value for the study of traditional Chinese ceramic art.
